For the first time ever, all the Hebridean islands carried out a coordinated emergency evacuation.

The ambulance on Benbecula was called out.

The police force in Harris was up all night.

The fire brigade on Barra was alerted.

The hospital on Lewis was on standby.

The coastguard on Eigg was scrambled.
