In the last two weeks, different special interest groups in the US, have attempted to censor, or to remove completely from public view, Charles Shultz's Peanuts comic strip and have, successfully, removed all traces of Santa smoking a pipe, from the Christmas classic "A visit from St. Nicholas." or "The night before Xmas." Mark Twain was removed from schools last century. Librarians are amazed and so am I--and not a little frightened too.

Listen my friend, my old woman is in the teaching business and you would not believe some of the PC bullshit she has to implement when dealing with a class of multi ethnic kids from London.

She's seen many popular kid's books withdrawn from the syllabus due to perceived examples of racism, religious intolerance etc.

I dont have time to detail them all right now but later on I'll write them on the "chalk board" for yers. She's not allowed to call it a blackboard any more you see?

Crazy fucked up logic because just like myself, yourself and all right thinking folks she doesn't see black kids, yellow kids, Asian kids, Muslim kids, Jewish kids when she looks out across her classroom each working day.....

David Cameron said in 2008 that he wanted all books to be checked and age rated and like films have 'offensive material removed' all magazines with a shelf life of over a week would also have to go through the same process. They are slowly bringing this in by stealth.

Texas high school library told to remove Tom Wolfe's "The Right Stuff" (a book about the Mercury Seven Astronauts) due to sexul content (Chippies made a point to fuck each of the seven and did get all but Glenn and Carpenter).

Maybe Ellie has more info, but I got mine from a library review.

I teach kindergarten. I wouldn't know Frankie!

But, I could ask my librarian for a list of books that have been banned or people want to be banned for whatever reason.

I have a cousin who refused to let her children read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for some reason having to do with anti-catholicism. And she didn't bother reading it herself. It was all based on what others told her. I would imagine most people who want to ban books haven't even read the book that want to ban.
