This is one of those days when feelings of mortality will not be ignored away.
Landing on the moon - the whole Apollo programme, in fact - was the thing of my youth. We did go to the moon - and all you nay-sayers... well, you know what you can do. |

I was there, glued to the one eyed morons magnet. My grandfather said, "If they used all thier fuel on the way doon, where did they get the fuel for on the way oop?"
It never happened, it never will. "Capricorn one" Rules! Arm xxxxxxxxxx |

I was just a baby, but my parents have a picture of me in my baby carrier in front of the TV when it showed the moon landing.
RIP Neil Armstrong. Ellie |

| Oh. They've encased him in Carbonite. He should be quite well protected. If he survived the freezing process, that is. | |||

Nice to know you're going to bed happy Fergus.
Makes a change. ![]() While Neil was doing Sting impressions, walking on the moon and all that, I was delivering papers. Just another example of one rule for them and another rule for us. Seriously...Neil left an indelible impression on the world as we know it, and despite all the crackpot conspiracy theorists, he took his balls in his hands, braved the Van Allen belt, walked on the moon, and lived to tell the tale. There was never a guarantee that he'd get back alive. Respect. Massive. Skoob. |

If you ever get to D.C. and the Smithsonian to see the tin can lunar lander they did that stuff in. DAMN they were brave, crazy bastards! Imagine flying a crappy 1990 Ford Fiesta to the moon today and you have it in a nutshell!

Been to the Air & Space Museum in DC twice... will carry on going back if/whenever I visit... it's amazing.
BUT the biggest stateside thrill EVER was going to the Kennedy Space Center a couple of years ago. My word, was there ever a grown-up kid in candy store. The missus and I only admitted to each other later that we had lumps in our throats as we approached the place! |

RIP Satchmo. It certainly won't be a "Wonderful World" without you in it, thats for sure.
Not only an accomplished moon walker but a hell of a trumpeter to. God bless, and don't worry mate, we all thought Neil Lightyear was a far better name for a Disney "toy" space explorer character. Feck Buzz Aldrin....you were the man. |

I always hoped he would be knighted, just to here the queen say "Kneel, Neil."
I miss him, the crazy dude. I'm welling up. Iain |

Ah yes, makes sense.
Speaking of weekends away, you got some kicking in Auckland didn't you? I'd say there were a few jumpers from the sky tower after that one. |

It wasn't pretty. But the night out was good and made somewhat easier by the fact I had an All Black shirt on! |

It's a shame his ladder didn't break; that would have been some real news!
Not a great space fan, but I do have respect for these early astronauts who risked their lives...RIP |

I stayed up all night then like Skoob went off to do my paper round (then finally to bed).
But I do remember my dad saying something was a bit iffy when we were in our living room watching the TV and hearing President Nixon congratulating them. Big mistake stretching his hand out and shaking Neil's! |

I wasn't allowed to watch it live. My magazine piece "Apollo Moon Landings Killer..." is an accurate report of what happened to me that historic night. (The rest is all fiction, of course).

How queer. MY biggest stateside thrill was also at the Kennedy Space Center, also a couple of years ago. I dropped 2 large moon rocks into an English couples cups of coffee....they complained later about lumps in their throats! |

I'm back now boys....don't panic.
I just don't like space travel and sciencey things that much. I get a man in to do those sort of things. Hugs and kisses, Debbie |

Dallas was very much like Swindon.
I'd have been back sooner, but I had to earn my airfare. Debbie |

Sorry, I was just reading page 1 of this thread. What the fuck has Satchmo and Wonderful World got to do with Neil Armstrong? Is that just a piss poor comedic link, or is the writer a total numpty? Answers on a postcard please. |
