Well, it appears that the forum doesn't recognise that link for some reason??

Ok... let's try this... copy and paste into your browser.

PS It is not porn... or anything controversial - just good witty satire. (Remember that?)

Indeedy chaps!

Ok, here's some more (imvho) good satire all based on the same topical story, each with its own slant - and all nicely crafted...

Escape pod

Gangster

0 Arrests

Inspiring, innit?

The Eastwood one's pretty good. It shows how to incorporate dialogue smoothly into an article and present it as a valid news piece, rather than a magazine type interview.

Quite surprised me that did, because I don't generally rate NB - too far up their own behinds for my liking. We have better writers here.

Skoob.

Yup, the Eastwood is quite a neat piece isn't it Skoob. Like every satire site NB has its ups and downs, but (as with The Onion in the States), because it has a very selective editorial policy (John O'Farrell) it does have a definite wry take/slant on stories. So you get to know very quickly whether that particular sensahuma is to your liking or not. Every day there's only one main story, two shorter 'News in brief' ones, and four one-liner news 'tickers'. 'NewsThump', 'Poke' and other closely edited and selective satire sites have similar approaches. Quality, not quantity.

It's all subjective. I've never been in tears of laughter at any of NB's articles, but have been wryly amused at seeing some good concepts well crafted and smoothly executed.

As for better writers here? Well... I honestly dunno Skoob. Mebbe. Mebbe not.

By dint of the nature of this site, i.e. non-selective, no editorial policy or 'brand slant', with everything published - hence huge volume of subs and turnover - you have to trawl (not 'troll') through vast numbers of submissions, ditto 'snippets' (The Spoof form of NB's tickers) before landing anything genuinely funny, fresh or smart. At least, that's been my experience, but again, it's all subjective. Chacun a son goût.

Meanwhile... how about a take on the ubiquitous "there's an app for that" story?

This one made me laff.

Here's quite a nice bit of UK Entertainment & Gossip nonsense, with a neat core idea.

It's a shame we are so restricted with use of pix on The Spoof, both content and variable size, as they really can add so much to the subs.

And a neat twisted topical one from another site you may have heard of...

Religion? Smidgen.
