Song For JO

Being the jolly decent chap I am, I thought it would be a nice gesture to put up a little song to greet my esteemed friend, Jaggedone. When next he pops in.

So I've found him a nice bit of opera. A little gem of Handel from Rinaldo. Re-using his well known Sarabande tune...

This, of course (as JO well knows) is meant for a soprano.

But instead, I've chosen one of today's most glorious sopranists..

I'm sure he'll instantly spot the difference..

Oh crickey...such pressure. Is there a time limit to come up with something before you're shown the door?

Most writers who join this site manage to squeeze one out in the first few days.

Very few just hang around the Forums, or imagine they're being 'shown the door'.

Always a good sign to read an example of a newby's spoofery, that's the whole point of this website.

^^^^ As seen in new series of 'Neighbours from Hell' ^^^^

Some great treats put out from everyone and the particularly gobsmacking selection of Jaroussky from the wonky eyed sister of mercy there...wonderful!! Such a contrast to the subsequent shady East End used car dealer's choice of Lemmy*.

Music from both ends of the spectrum and plectrum.

Talking of which, here's two from me...

Bach's Keyboard Concerto No. 5, In F Minor, BVW 1056 Largo (Glen Gould). (From 3:00 to 5:40, but worth watching the whole of Roy Hill's Vonnegut cracker).

and...

Just heaven... in Iceland!

* Used to drink in the same 'after hours' rubbidy as him in the mid 80's. Nice bloke.

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

Mark Knopfler's hauntingly beautiful anthem to the heartbreaking nobility of the warrior and the stinking cesspit that is armed conflict.

The clue's in the lyrics

I just click on the red words. I don't read what you're blathering on about. And no, I'm not going to fall into that "slathering" trap you've set for us.

See you in the olympic trials.

Here you go Danton. Now that I know what gets to you, there may be no turning back.

I rebel against your melodic thread, changing it instead to a thread of somewhat humorous insults.

Sir, I fart in your general direction...(said Charpa as she crawled like a coward back into her corner)

Imagine how much better it would have been if they could have afforded more than one instrument. Makes you wonder how many bathrooms they have...

Just kidding Ellie. This is very nice.

Listen to this song with your eyes closed...

The Blower's Daughter - Damien Rice

Every time I listen to it, I cry. It will always make me think of him...and not my ex. The one after him...

This is my "gets me every time" song, no matter how many times I've heard it. Leonard Cohen is a genius poet and composer. No one like him in the world.

In view of the latest rather overwrought utterings of my number one fan in Canada's fair environs I'd like to dedicate this one to Skoob who by some benign stroke of providence and sheer bloody good luck, yesterday celebrated the anniversary of his betrothal to somebody far too good for him and indeed to all the merry little slathering band of drunken ne'er do wells that gathered in a little watering hole in The Strand the other day to deplete the ale stocks of the UK and to urinate over their felt boots whilst ganging up at least 12 to 1.

Gentlemen I give you:

This!
