If I can be serious for a moment, and I'm sure I can if I put my mind to it. I am a little worried about this whole Rupert Murdoch thing.
Wrapped up in this hacking furore are MP's who perhaps see a chance to get back at the British press for exposing the expenses scandal. They are talking about changing the rules that govern the press. By how much we have yet to see. I know that if I were in government I would be using this golden opportunity to bring the press to heal. I'm not saying that we are going to end up like China but it is a gradual process. I wonder what George Orwell would make of this. Are we sleepwalking into 1984? |

They are thinking of restricting the press over there? Hacking into phones is wrong. However, a good journalist should be able to uncover stories without resorting to illegal activities. Or, maybe I'm just naive.
But based on your statement you're fearing something that will be totally oppressive? I would think then, that's when the people have to start a massive protest. |

| Oh. They've encased him in Carbonite. He should be quite well protected. If he survived the freezing process, that is. | |||

We'll take to the streets when the price of pies increases.

The unfortunate thing is that there will be no protests from the public re restricting the press in the UK, as most 'newspapers' carry hardly any news as it is, and the public will only complain if their diet of sex, celebrities and sport is restricted. The one bright hope on the horizon is the current freedom of reportage via the internet, which appears to have been adopted as a method of information retrieval by more and more people. Although if the powers that be start to restrict that - as some other countries have already done then things get serious, and the mercantile classes start getting involved which tends to be where most revolutions start. And if that was to happen, then come the glorious day, it will be difficult to find a wall long enough to put every smug self-serving manipulative bastard against....Sorry, getting a bit carried away there. |

I dunno. I get the Littlehampton Bugle & Arquebus. That's full of news. No scandal there.

Would anybody start a revolution for a free trouser press?
I think we should be told. |

Well, I've been looking for a good protest to join.
But seriously, there aren't any "real" newspapers there? I am actually a news junkie. Not celebrity, gossip mind you. REAL news! And, I really have been looking for a real protest to join. |

We had a similar problem with the East Preston Gazette.
Mrs Morpeth was found earwigging the conversations at the Nell Gwin tea rooms and putting her findings in the Forum Ladies monthly news letter. Bitch Arm xxxx |
