Back in the 70's and 60's and also before that the wingers had a special place in the game of football. Today a traditional winger are no longer part of the game, but would a Coppell, Cooke or Cunningham played a part in present
Steve Coppell, Charlie Cooke and Laurie Cunningham are just a few of those legendary players that took on defenders passed them with a minimum of space and curled the ball into a "large" forward who could either go for goal or stear the ball down to his "little" partner up front.
The traditional winger was also very important for me and my Nottingham Forest. John Robbertson was a key player, and his fantastic way of taking on defenders moving down to the corner flag and steer his passes so precisely it was a great joy to watch.
